Cindy Tang, AMFT (she, her)

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #147830
Supervised by Nanci Kim, LMFT CA #95979

Cindy is a second-generation Taiwanese American psychotherapist who was raised in Southern California, occasionally spends time in Taiwan, and now resides in Northern California. She received her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy Counseling from California State University, East Bay, and has two years of clinical experience working with children, parents, couples, and families across various settings, including the school system, community mental health agencies, and permanent supportive housing.

Cindy believes in honoring all parts of ourselves—whether shaped by trauma, grief, or loss—to be more fully present. Cindy supports clients in moving beyond simply identifying and understanding emotions; she helps them create meaningful narratives that align with their values and reflect their inner truth. Her work is deeply client-centered and relational. She believes healing occurs not in isolation, but in relation to others. Cindy uses an integrative therapeutic approach to meet the unique needs of each individual. Treatment may include:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Relational/Person-Centered Therapy

  • Psychodynamic Therapy

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Trauma-Focused Therapies (Trauma-Focused CBT, EMDR).

In sessions, Cindy offers a warm, calm, and non-judgmental space where clients are empowered to set the pace of their healing journey. With gentle support, she facilitates deeper emotional processing and inner work, meeting each person exactly where they are.

SPECIALIZATIONS

Children (Ages 5 and older)

Cindy uses play therapy and sand tray therapy to create a space for children that feels safe, imaginative, and developmentally attuned. Cindy places special emphasis on the parent-child relationship—supporting parents in becoming more attuned to their children’s emotional needs through modeling, co-regulation, attachment-based approaches, and creating a sense of safety.

Young Adults (18+) + Bicultural or Neurodivergent Identities

Cindy supports young adults through major life transitions, helping them navigate early career choices, build meaningful and healthy relationships, and explore their evolving identities. She uses a strengths-based approach to reinforce positive self-esteem and resilience during one of life’s most formative stages.

With bi-cultural populations, Cindy works from a relational perspective, recognizing the influence of the people in our lives and how those relationships shape our behaviors. She has a particular interest in the complexities of intergenerational relationships and navigating family dynamics. She also supports clients who may be neurodiverse in these contexts.

Couples Therapy

Cindy combines Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) and Relational Life Therapy (RLT) to support couples in addressing resentment, re-building trust and intimacy, and de-escalating high conflict. She helps couples learn to lower their defenses so partners can engage with each other through authentic communication and vulnerability.
