Monica Velez, APCC (she, her)

Associate Professional Clinical Counselor #20714
Supervised by Nanci Kim, LMFT CA #95979

Monica is a Latina psychotherapist raised in California, shaped by resilience, community, and a deep respect for the many stories people carry. She holds a Master’s in Clinical Counseling and works with children and adolescents and adults. She has extensive experience supporting adults with complex mental health needs and has provided care across residential treatment, community mental health, school-based settings, equine-assisted therapy groups, and trauma-informed programs.

Monica believes that every person has an internal system of parts shaped by attachment experiences, trauma, culture, and identity. Rather than focusing solely on symptom reduction, she works collaboratively with clients to understand the protective strategies beneath anxiety, depression, behavioral outbursts, grief, and relational conflict. Her approach is deeply trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming, with particular sensitivity to ADHD, autism, complex trauma, and mood disorders. Monica integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed work, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, Trauma-Focused interventions, play therapy techniques, and expressive modalities including art, storytelling, and experiential activities.

In sessions, Monica offers a grounded, steady, and compassionate presence. She values curiosity over judgment and collaboration over authority. Clients are invited to move at their own pace, explore difficult emotions safely, and build skills that foster resilience both inside and outside the therapy room. Monica’s goal is to help each client feel more regulated, more connected, and more aligned with the life they want to create.
