Ackley is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who is passionate about helping individuals navigate life's challenges with compassion, curiosity, and cultural humility. Born and raised in Fremont, Ackley brings a culturally aware perspective shaped by his experiences growing up in a blended, multiracial Chinese American family and spending time on the East Coast. These experiences have deepened his appreciation for the unique backgrounds, identities, and stories that each person brings into therapy.
Ackley earned his Master of Science in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, East Bay. He has experience supporting adolescents and adults in school settings, psychiatric facilities, and community mental health clinics, helping clients navigate anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, life transitions, and emotional challenges.
Ackley believes that healing begins with a strong therapeutic relationship and strives to create a warm, welcoming, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe to explore their experiences. Using a person-centered, strengths-based, and collaborative approach, he integrates CBT, DBT, and Gestalt Therapy techniques to support clients in developing insight, building coping skills, and working toward meaningful change.
SPECIALIZATIONS
Children and Adolescents
Ackley enjoys working with children and adolescents, helping them navigate emotions, relationships, school-related stress, and life transitions. He uses play-based and creative approaches to help younger clients feel comfortable expressing themselves and exploring their experiences in a way that feels natural and age-appropriate. Ackley believes that building a trusting therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful change and prioritizes creating a safe, supportive space where children and teens feel heard, understood, and accepted. As someone who grew up in a Chinese American immigrant family, he also understands the unique cultural values, family dynamics, and expectations that can shape the experiences of children and adolescents in immigrant households.
Young Adults, Selfhood, and Sociocultural or Racial Identity
Ackley supports adults as they navigate life transitions, relationships, family dynamics, work-life balance, anxiety, depression, neurodivergence, and questions of identity and belonging. He believes therapy is a space to reflect on where we have been, understand where we are now, and explore where we hope to go. Ackley strives to create a warm and supportive environment where clients feel safe to explore their emotions, experiences, and challenges at their own pace. He is passionate about working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those who have experienced feeling misunderstood, disconnected, or challenged in understanding their cultural, racial, or personal identity.
